A braces or aligner quote is only useful when you know what it covers. At our clinics, braces cost ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 and Invisalign starts from ₹1,20,000. Both prices cover the treatment itself. The retainer at the end is priced separately. This guide shows you what to check in any quote, line by line, so two numbers can be compared fairly.

Why two quotes for the same teeth can look so different

Two quotes usually differ because they include different things, not because one clinic is cheaper.

One clinic may quote for the brackets alone. Another may include every visit, every wire and the review visits after the braces come off. An aligner quote may or may not include extra trays near the end. The retainer may sit inside the number, or outside it.

So the first question is not "how much?" It is "how much, for what?" Once every quote answers that in writing, the comparison becomes simple.

If you are still deciding between the two methods, our guide to clear aligners and braces explains which bites suit which. This post is about the money side.

Braces and aligner prices at Smile Dental, side by side

Braces at our Kondapur and Vizag clinics cost ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 depending on the bracket system, and Invisalign starts from ₹1,20,000 for full cases.

The same list applies at both branches.

OptionPrice (full treatment, both jaws)
Metal braces, Metro or Esthetica₹50,000
Metal braces, 3M or Prime₹60,000
Dentaurum memory wire braces₹70,000
Self-ligating braces, 3M, Selfy or AO₹75,000
Damon Q1 self-ligating braces₹1,00,000
Damon Q2 self-ligating braces₹1,25,000
Damon Clear ceramic braces₹1,50,000
Invisalign clear aligners, full caseFrom ₹1,20,000
Removable retainer (after either)₹10,000
Fixed bonded retainer (after either)₹20,000

The exact aligner price depends on how much your teeth need to move. You get that number in your written plan after the ₹500 consultation. For a fuller explanation of what moves the braces number, read our page on braces cost in Hyderabad.

What the braces price covers

Our braces price covers the whole active treatment, from fitting the brackets to the review visits after they come off.

That means:

  • All adjustment visits while the braces are on
  • Every wire change
  • The brackets themselves
  • An occasional broken bracket, re-fixed without a new bill
  • Post-treatment review visits

This matters because braces need regular visits. A quote that charges per visit can grow over a year or two. When you compare, ask each clinic one question: "Is there any charge per visit?" A plain yes or no in writing settles it.

What the aligner price covers

Our aligner price covers the planned trays, the check-in visits and, in most cases, the extra refinement trays near the end.

Aligners are made in sets. You change to a new set every one to two weeks and visit us about every six to eight weeks to check progress. Toward the end, some cases need a few extra trays to fine-tune the last small movements. These are called refinement aligners. At our clinics they are typically included in the treatment fee.

This is the line to check most carefully in any aligner quote. Research reviews find that aligners move teeth more predictably in some directions than others (overview of systematic reviews, 2023). So some refinement is normal, and it helps to know in advance how it is priced.

Before aligners, your teeth and gums need to be healthy. The American Association of Orthodontists advises finishing any cleaning or fillings before the scan, because the trays are made to the exact shape of your teeth (AAO FAQs). If you need either, the cost is listed separately in your plan so there are no surprises.

What costs extra, with braces or aligners

The retainer is the main extra: ₹10,000 for a removable one or ₹20,000 for a fixed one bonded behind the teeth.

Every orthodontic case needs a retainer. The AAO notes that all patients wear retainers after treatment, whatever appliance they used (AAO, braces vs clear aligners). A retainer holds the teeth in their new position while the bone around them settles. It is what keeps the result looking the way it did on the day the braces came off.

Other items that may sit outside a quote, at any clinic:

  • X-rays, if needed (₹200 to ₹500 at our clinics)
  • Cleaning or fillings before treatment starts
  • A replacement retainer, years later
  • A lost aligner tray

None of these are hidden if they are written down. The aim is simply to see them on paper before you start.

Six questions to ask before you accept any quote

Ask each clinic the same six questions and get the answers in writing.

  1. Is the price for both jaws, or one?
  2. Are all adjustment or check-in visits included?
  3. For aligners, are refinement trays included?
  4. Is the retainer included, and which type?
  5. Who plans and supervises the treatment, and what are their qualifications?
  6. Can I pay in stages?

The fifth question is worth a moment. The AAO points out that an orthodontist is best placed to decide whether braces or aligners suit a case (AAO, clear aligners). At our clinics every braces and aligner case is planned by Dr. Rajesh Kumar Y, MDS Orthodontics, Facial Orthopedist, at a clinic that has cared for patients since 1997.

If you already hold a quote from somewhere else and want a calm second look, our second opinion guide explains how that works.

Comfort and daily life are part of the value too

Price is one line in the decision, and how the treatment fits your day is another.

A recent review of clinical studies found that people wearing clear aligners reported better quality of life at six months than people wearing fixed braces (PubMed). That fits what many adults tell us. Aligners come out for meals and for brushing. They are hard to spot in office meetings and in wedding photos.

Braces have their own strengths. They stay on, so they keep working without you having to remember them. That is why many parents choose them for teenagers. They also give the orthodontist fine control for bigger rotations and bite corrections. Aligners only work when worn 20 to 22 hours a day.

So the fair comparison is value for your teeth and your routine, not just the lower number.

Paying in stages

You do not need to pay the full amount on day one.

For braces, EMI and staged payment are available. For aligners, payments follow treatment milestones, so you pay as the work progresses. Your written plan shows the schedule next to the total, which makes budgeting easy.

What happens at your ₹500 consultation

For ₹500 you get an iTero 3D scan and a written plan with the exact price.

We scan your teeth with the iTero scanner. The scan takes a few minutes, and there are no moulds. You see your own teeth in 3D on the screen. The orthodontist checks your bite and explains which option suits it and why.

You leave with a written plan. Where both braces and aligners are sensible for your teeth, it prices both, with every inclusion listed. There is no pressure to decide on the day. Take it home, compare it with any other quote using the six questions above, and decide when you are ready.
