Pediatric dentistry provides gentle, prevention-first dental care designed specifically for infants, children, and teens. The goal isn't just fixing teeth — it's building healthy habits early and making dental visits a positive experience so your child grows up without dental fear.
At Smile Dental Kondapur and Vizag, pediatric checkups start from ₹500. We focus on making children feel safe, explaining everything in kid-friendly language, and giving parents clear guidance they can actually follow at home.

Bring your child in for...
- First dental visit (recommended by age 1, or when the first tooth appears)
- Regular checkups and cleanings (every 6 months from age 2-3)
- Cavity treatment — baby teeth cavities matter and shouldn't be ignored
- Alignment or bite concerns you've noticed as permanent teeth come in
- Dental anxiety — if your child is scared from a previous experience elsewhere
- Sports mouth guards or habit correction (thumb sucking, tongue thrusting)
This works best when...
- Parents participate in building home care habits (we guide you, but brushing happens at home)
- Children are given age-appropriate expectations before the visit (not told “it won't hurt” — we handle comfort, but false promises create more fear)
- Complex orthodontic issues in older teens may be better served by our orthodontic team directly
If your child is extremely anxious, let us know when booking. We'll plan the visit around their comfort level — sometimes the first visit is just sitting in the chair and looking around. No rush.
First visit (for young children)
- We let the child explore the clinic at their own pace
- Gentle examination — we count teeth, check gums, look at how the bite is developing
- Fun explanation of what each tool does (no surprises)
- Parents get clear guidance on brushing technique, diet, and fluoride
Regular checkups (every 6 months)
- Cleaning appropriate for the child's age
- Cavity check
- Growth and alignment monitoring
- Fluoride application if recommended
- Sealants on permanent molars when they come in (prevents 80% of cavities in those teeth)
Your child's experience
We don't restrain, force, or rush. If a child needs a break, they get one. We explain everything in simple language first. We show tools before using them. The goal of every visit is to build trust — so the next visit is even easier.
For parents
You're welcome to stay with your child during the visit. We'll explain what we find, what needs attention now vs what to monitor, and exactly how to care for their teeth at home. No jargon, no guilt trips about screen time and sugar.
After routine visits
No downtime. Kids can eat, play, and go to school normally. If fluoride was applied, avoid eating for 30 minutes.
After fillings or treatment
If local anesthetic was used, watch that your child doesn't bite their numb lip or cheek (common in younger children). Numbness wears off in 1-2 hours. Soft foods until then.
Pediatric Dentistry: From ₹500
- Checkup and exam: ₹500-1,000
- Cleaning: ₹1,000-2,000
- Fluoride treatment: ₹1,000-2,000
- Sealants (per tooth): ₹1,000-1,500
- Fillings: ₹1,500-3,500 per tooth
Prevention visits (checkups, cleanings, sealants) are the cheapest dental care you'll ever invest in. One sealant at ₹1,000 can prevent a filling that costs ₹3,000 or a root canal that costs ₹4,000-12,000 years later.
Baby teeth matter more than most parents think
"It's just a baby tooth, it'll fall out" is the most common misconception we hear. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth. Losing a baby tooth early to decay can cause permanent teeth to come in crooked, crowded, or impacted — leading to orthodontic treatment that costs ₹40,000-2,50,000. A ₹1,500 filling today can prevent a ₹1,00,000 problem later.
Children's dental care during your India visit
Checkups and routine care fit easily into any visit. If your child needs treatment (fillings, extractions), we can usually complete it in 1-2 visits. WhatsApp us any concerns before your trip and we'll advise on what to prioritize.
Cost comparison: Pediatric checkup in India: ₹500-1,000. Same in US: ₹5,000-12,000. Filling in India: ₹1,500-3,500. In US: ₹10,000-25,000.
When should my child first see a dentist?
By age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits establish comfort with dental care and catch issues before they develop.
Will my child be scared?
We're experienced with anxious children. We go at their pace, use kid-friendly language, and never force anything. Most children who start with us early actually look forward to dental visits.
Are X-rays safe for children?
Dental X-rays use very low radiation — less than a day of natural background exposure. We only take them when clinically necessary, not routinely. Our iTero scanner is radiation-free for visual examination.
Do cavities in baby teeth need treatment?
Yes. Untreated cavities cause pain, infection, and can damage the permanent teeth developing underneath. Baby teeth also hold space for adult teeth — losing them early causes alignment problems.
At what age should my child start brushing alone?
Children need help brushing until age 7-8 (when they can tie their own shoelaces is a good benchmark). Before that, they don't have the hand coordination to brush effectively on their own.
