The short answer

Most dental implants take 4 to 6 months from your first visit to the final tooth. The actual time you spend in the chair is only a few short appointments. The rest is healing, where the implant settles into your jawbone and becomes a solid base for the new tooth.

That timeline holds for a single tooth. Full arch work with All-on-4 follows a similar shape, with one big difference. You walk out with a fixed set of temporary teeth on the day of surgery. More on that below.

Why it takes a few months, and why that is good news

An implant is a small titanium post that sits where your tooth root used to be. Over a few months your own bone grows around it and locks it in place. Dentists call this osseointegration. In plain terms, the post and your jaw become one unit.

That bond is the whole reason an implant feels and works like a natural tooth. It lets you bite into an apple without thinking about it. Giving the bone its healing time is what makes the result hold for years. So the wait is not lost time. It is the part doing the real work.

A single implant, visit by visit

Here is what the path looks like for one tooth at our Kondapur and Vizag clinics.

Visit 1, the consultation. We check the gap and your gum health, then take a 3D scan of the jaw to measure bone. You leave with a written plan and the exact cost before anything is booked. This visit is about 45 minutes.

Visit 2, placing the implant. The titanium post goes into the jaw under local anaesthesia. It takes 30 to 90 minutes. Most people tell us it was easier than they expected, and they go home the same day.

The healing months. For the next 3 to 6 months the implant fuses with your bone. There are no restrictions on daily life. You eat on the other side and carry on as normal. If the gap is in a visible spot, we can fit a temporary tooth so your smile stays intact.

Visit 3, the abutment and scan. Once the implant is firm, we attach a small connector and take a digital scan, no putty moulds, to design your crown.

Visit 4, the crown. Your custom crown is fitted and the bite is checked. You leave with a tooth that looks and works like your own.

Add it up and the chair time across the whole process is roughly three hours. The calendar time is 4 to 6 months, almost all of it quiet healing.

All-on-4: fixed teeth on the day of surgery

If you are missing most or all of the teeth in a jaw, All-on-4 replaces the full arch on four implants. The timeline works in your favour here.

Surgery day runs 3 to 4 hours. The four implants are placed and a fixed set of temporary teeth is attached the same day, so you leave with teeth rather than a gap. Those temporaries stay on while the implants heal for 4 to 6 months. Then your final, stronger set is fitted. Start to finish, plan for 4 to 6 visits across 4 to 8 months.

When the plan includes bone grafting

Some jaws need a little more bone before an implant can go in. If your scan shows that, bone grafting rebuilds the area first. The graft then needs about 3 to 6 months of its own healing before the implant is placed.

Not everyone needs this. The angled design of All-on-4 often works in reduced bone without a graft. We only suggest grafting when your scan genuinely calls for it, and we tell you at the planning stage so there are no surprises on the calendar.

Doing it from abroad: the two-trip plan for NRIs

Plenty of our implant patients fly in from the US, the UK, the Gulf, and Australia. Implants split neatly into two India trips because of the healing gap.

  • Trip 1, about one week: the consultation and implant placement, with a 3D scan to plan it. You fly home while the bone heals.
  • Trip 2, about one week, 4 to 6 months later: the crown, or for All-on-4 the final fixed teeth.

If grafting is needed first, add a short earlier trip for that. The way to plan it well is straightforward. WhatsApp us your X-rays before you book flights. Dr. Rajesh or Dr. Varsha reviews them and sends back a realistic timeline and cost, so your travel dates line up with the treatment and not the other way around. Our implants page has the full process if you want the detail.

Can it be done faster?

Sometimes, yes. When the bone is dense and healthy, a same-day or immediate-load implant can place the post and a temporary tooth in one sitting. It does not suit every mouth, and pushing a timeline that a jaw is not ready for is not worth it. At your consultation we will tell you honestly whether you are a candidate.

What it costs and what to do next

This page is about timing. For exact pricing, your written plan covers it to the rupee, and our cost guides break down single implants and full arch work. As a rough guide, single implants generally run about ₹45,000 to ₹88,000 with the crown, and All-on-4 is priced per arch and starts from around ₹2,50,000.

If you are weighing an implant and want to see how your own timeline would look, send us a message. We will look at your case and lay out the steps. Book a consultation on WhatsApp, or visit us in Kondapur or Vizag.
